Isalo National Park is the perfect place to spend a night or two near the end of a trip to Madagascar. The Isalo Rock Lodge is first class with nice rooms that have decks where you can sit outside and watch the sunset over the sandstone cliffs that surround you:

About four weeks before we arrived, the local people were doing their uncontrolled slash and burn to create young grass for grazing cattle. The fire spead to the Isalo National Park and killed all but one of their remaining red-fronted lemurs. A family of 4 or 5 has been reduced to 1. It will be gone because there are no more to mate.
